In order to be a 32° Scottish Rite Mason in New Jersey, you must be first a Master Mason in a lodge constituent to the Grand Lodge of New Jersey, or to a Grand Lodge in amity with the Grand Lodge of New Jersey. In the Symbolic Lodge of Freemasons, three Degrees are conferred, culminating in the Master Mason Degree.
Once a Master Mason, a Brother is welcome to seek membership in many appendant Masonic organizations, including the Scottish Rite. The Scottish Rite confers 29 Degrees overall, however a Brother does not have to receive all 29 degrees to become a 32° Mason. To become a 32° Scottish Rite Mason, a new member would receive the 4° to begin with, a minimum of three additional Degrees in between, and then concluding with the 32°. Any number of Degrees can be conferred at a session, also known as a Reunion, or throughout the year as special presentations. A new member receives a Scottish Rite Passport booklet that gets stamped with the witnessing of each Degree. This allows each member to keep track of Degrees seen throughout the years.
If you are a Scottish Rite Mason, I hope you are enjoying your membership! If you are not a member, we hope you may consider us as your "Fraternity of Choice!"
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Ill. Douglas R. Policastro, 33º
Deputy for New Jersey
